Celebration of the 2012 Diamond Jubilee in Canada
Ottawa, ON – In 2012, Canadians will mark the Diamond Jubilee of our head of state, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada. For the second time in Canadian history, the first being Queen Victoria, we will honour the 60 year reign of a Sovereign who has dedicated her life to the service of others and has demonstrated pride and affection for Canada.
The Diamond Jubilee gives us an opportunity to celebrate our traditions and history. It is also a unique moment that offers the chance to increase our young people’s understanding of the role of the Crown in Canada and our constitutional monarchy.
In recognition of the Diamond Jubilee, a medal will be issued to a number of deserving Canadians from all walks of life, who have made significant contributions to their communities and helped to create the Canada of today.
Each Member of Parliament is allotted 30 nominations. At this time, nominations are being accepted at any one of my three constituency offices, located in Woodstock, Tillsonburg and Ingersoll, until July 30, 2012.
A formal presentation of the ceremony will be held in the fall of 2012.
