Tillsonburg District Craft Guild Receives Funding to Commemorate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
Ottawa, ON – MP MacKenzie, on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, is happy to announce funding for the Tillsonburg District Craft Guild to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Thanks to investments from the Government of Canada, residents in Oxford County will be able to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the throne as Queen of Canada, in their local community.
“I am very pleased that Canadian Heritage was able to provide this grant to the Tillsonburg District Craft Guild,” said MP MacKenzie. “I know that support to Canadian organizations, such as this one, is very important and will be put to good use.”
As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Government of Canada is providing support to a wide range of organizations and projects across the country, including many unique, grassroots celebrations to mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and highlight how Canada has evolved over the past 60 years under Her Majesty’s reign.
“Our Government was given a strong mandate to support and celebrate important Canadian milestones, such as the Diamond Jubilee,” said Minister Moore. “This is a rare opportunity for Canadians, especially our youth and new Canadians, to take part in celebrations in their community that mark this historic and significant anniversary.”
The Government of Canada has already unveiled its plans for the celebrations of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which are aimed at increasing awareness about this national milestone and encouraging Canadians to actively celebrate it in ways that are most meaningful to them. This includes support through the following:
- community funding to develop unique, grassroots Diamond Jubilee celebrations, such as the one being announced today
- educational materials for teachers, youth leaders, and local organizations to promote the Diamond Jubilee and strengthen Canadians’ awareness of our institutions
- Diamond Jubilee medal program recognizing outstanding Canadians who have made significant contributions to their communities
- educational tools, including an update of A Crown of Maples – a publication that explains the role of the Crown in Canada and our constitutional monarchy
